Sun Valley Travels

July 27, 1988

Rainy

Today we got up and packed for Sun Valley! Then we had cinnamon rolls for breakfast and by the time Dad was back from getting Mom’s car ready it was 10:30 and we were on our way. It didn’t seem like a very long car trip compared to the Oregon trip and we were there by 3:30. We checked in to the Airport Inn and then it started pouring rain. The clerk told dad it was their first rain since May! So we got some stuff for sandwiches and cleaned our skates. Then we took the Elkhorn Road to the rink and made it just in time for Darlin’s first lesson with Stephanie. That was on the 5:20 freestyle and then we skated the 7:30 public and had lessons with Stephanie. Then we skated until 10:00 under the stars with a whole group of boys watching and one of them came over to me and asked if I wanted to go to a party! But I said, ‘no thanks,’ and then Sheri, Darlin and I left with Mommy to go eat pizza. Love,

Today when I woke up I was squashed between Sheri and Darlin so I got up and said good morning to everyone. Then I wrote a little in my diary before Mommy said that I should get the stuff ready for my hair. So Mommy colored my hair and we got all ready and packed out. We had lunch at the Hearthstone and by the time we got to the rink (15 minutes away) Darlins lesson was starting but she didn’t have her skates on, so Sonya Dunfield took the pair first and then Darlin. We videoed her lesson because she told her so much. Then we skated the public and had a short lesson from Steph and dad videoed but we were all so tired from yesterday that we didn’t skate very well. So we had a salad for lunch and Steph was busy, Sonya didn’t show, so we had ice cream and then skated on the public with all the boys watching again. Then we drove home late into the night. Love,

Today was a busy, busy day. First I woke up at 7:00 and got ready for my lesson with Ann-Margaret Frei at 8:15. Sheri was too tired to have her lesson, so I learned footwork and flying camels, tuck loops and flying sit spins. Then we talked to her about dad’s Hawaii show, took some pictures and said goodbye. I looked for Brett to say bye to but he wasn’t there. So we came home and Mommy had already fixed a nice big breakfast and packed and everything. So I hurried and ate and did dishes and packed just in time to leave at 11:30. We ate in Burley and were in Sun Valley by 5:30. So we checked in the Airport Inn and we were on the ice by 7:30. I wore my red dress and we skated until it closed at 10:00. Steph was there and a whole group of cute boys. And then we came home and ate some stuff we bought on our walk earlier today and feel asleep. Love,

Today was Tuesday and we got up pretty late because we were all so tired. We got ready and I wore my pink and white striped top and Espirit white mini. So Sheri and I packed up while Mommy and Darlin went to check out another hotel called the High Country Inn, out 3 miles in Bellevue. So we moved all our stuff out there because it’s cheaper and we’ll get to stay longer! I cleaned out the car and we had lunch at the Hearthstone. I had soup and salad like Mommy. When we got to the rink Sonya was teaching someone else first, so we decided to skate the public outside and when Sheri and I went to get our skates from the car, 2 boys from last night came up to us and asked our names. The boy that asked me was named Brink and his friend was Jim and they are from San Diego. And they watched us skate all day. We skated and then went to eat at Burger Haus and then we skated and had a lesson with Steph from the side and then came back to the hotel to sleep. Love,

Today we got up and I wore my plaid skirt and sweater. We had breakfast at the Hearthstone and I had blueberry pancakes, yum! Darlin had a lesson at 2:30 and we skated the public outside and Brink and Jim were there again! We went to wash Mommy’s pants and coat and had lunch at Louie’s. But we actually ate the pizza on the grass outside the rink while Darlin was having her 5:30 lesson with Steph on her number. Then we went to get some fruit at Atkinson’s and shop at Jane’s Paper Place, where we shopped yesterday a little and there were another couple of cute guys. We came back and skated for our last night this trip and had lessons with Steph and met a whole family from back east that were so nice and friendly. Of course Brink and Jim were there and some other cute guys that followed us down to the indoor rink while Mom was calling home and Brink came and talked to me and said goodbye. We had ice cream and then went to sleep. Love,

Today we had cold cereal for breakfast and got ready and checked out our room. Then we went looking at the Limelight apartments where we might get to spend all next summer. Then we ate at a really good Mexican place called Mama Inez’s. So we skated the outside public one last time but Brink and Jim weren’t there. We had fun in our fairy dresses and then we had to get off. We said goodbye to everyone and then got brownies and watched Kahrin and Lisa Talbot while Dad talked to Steph about Hawaii. Then we said by to Steph and since Darlin landed her double Salchow and double Toe we all got to swim in the Bald Mountain Hot Springs pool. We got ready and were on our way back home by 8:00. We had McDonald’s in Burley and were home by 2 a.m. Love,
