First Journal Entry

This book belongs to...BB

My first journal entry ever, written in cursive, with excessive hearts and stars dotting all "I"'s.

January 19, 1986

Today was a new beginning for my mommy and I. {I was 13 years old and still calling my mom, "Mommy", oh dear!} The first thing I did today was kiss my mommy good morning! Then we started to get ready for church. We fixed a breakfast of all kinds of good stuff, like scrambled eggs, toast and orange juice. After that we cleared the dishes and put the food away. Then I went down stairs to our neighbors, Donna, Carl & Carlene Smith's house to call my friend's Nikki & Tahlia about going to church. We had gotten up at 9:05 and our church started at 9:00. So we decided to still get ready and go in at 10 instead. That's why I called Nikki & Tahlia about church. Because we had invited them to come to church with us and we were going to pick them up at 9, but I called them and told them that we would pick them up at 10 minutes until 10 instead. Then I went back upstairs and got bathed, dressed and my hair done by my mommy. Then we cleaned up the house and put on our Sunday dresses and our new fur coats that we got for Christmas from our Mommy! Then we went to Nikki's & Tahlia's houses and picked them up. Then we went to church. We didn't have our same Sunday School teacher as we usually did. We had her husband instead. Her name is Shana and I don't know her husbands name or her last name. we had a good lesson though. We had a lesson about how you should always do what you're called to do in the church. Then we found Mommy and Darlin and then we went to Sacrament Meeting. In Sacrament meeting, Penny came and sat by all of us. Sacrament meeting was good too.  The Bishop's daughter, Robyn was going on a mission, so people talked about her and then she gave a talk about how happy she was to be going on a mission to Vermont. then we started drawing pictures. Darlin drew a picture for Mommy and Daddy that was so cute we put it on the refrigerator. Then Darlin drew me a picture too. It was so cute that I still have it and I'm going to keep it forever and ever. Then Thalia drew a picture of me and Penny kept it because it was her paper and she helped draw it. Then Nikki and I made the picture of the tabernacle organ pipes come through the sacrament meeting program. Then Penny gave me an invitation to the New Beginnings program. after that she gave me the program for New Beginnings and and told me what I needed to bring and do. She told us that we were supposed to bring some snacks for about 8 people and that we should be there by about 5:00. Then we sang the closing song "Now the day is over." Darlin, Sheri and I had been practicing that same song on the piano and in harmony with our voice teacher. Darlin sings the high part, Sheri sings the middle part and I sing the low part. All together with the piano, it sounds pretty. After the closing prayer, we all stood up and put on our coats. Then we started to talk to everybody. While we were standing in the walkway to go outside of the Park City ward, Kathy Richards, my young woman leader, came up and started telling us about the new beginnings program, that we supposed to bring snacks and come a bit early to set up any thing we would like to display on the table of my hobbies. Then she said she would see us later. So we said goodbye to Kathy and everybody else. Then we went out to the van and went home. After that we fixed the snack, got ready and went to the church. Then we helped set up the room and my part of the table. While everybody was coming in, Miss Billie, the Young Woman's president, gave all the girl's and me roses to pin on our dresses. Then it started. We sang song's, watched a slide show and then we all stood in a line and something nice about the person next to us. Then came my turn to say something about Sarah Jane, and I said, "Sarah Jane tells good stories all the way down to Salt Lake when we go down there to ice skate." After that was done, Penny bore her testimony. It had everybody crying. Then all the new girl's mom's stood up and bore their testimonies about their little girls. My mommy stood up after Marnie and Valinda's mom's did. She said the nicest things about me that I never thought she had noticed about me. She's the best mommy in the whole world. then we sang "As I have loved you" and everybody cried all the way through the first time, so we sang it again. Then we said the prayer and started eating the snacks. We helped clean up then we said goodnight to everyone and took Penny home. Then we went home to Park West and had a picture taken. We got ready for bed, said our prayers and said goodnight to everyone. Good Night!
