Portland Trip

September 17, 1988

Rainy 70

Today we got up and Mommy gave us a kiss good morning. Then I got ready and finished packing. Then I fixed cold cereal, cinnamon rolls and cantaloupe for breakfast and did the dishes. By the time everyone was packed and ready I had changed the fish bowl for the first time since Sun Valley. We were all in the car and ready by 11:00. We sang and played and ate at McDonald’s in Burley and KFC in LaGrande and listened to BYU win the game on the radio. We almost had a big fight like last time over singing but not quite. Then we were in Portland and the trip didn’t seem as long as last time. We got in at 12:30 our time but no one was up. Love,

Partly Rainy 65

This morning I woke up rested and even slept pretty good for the floor. Then I climbed in bed with Mommy and snuggled for a minute. Then Sheri and Darlin came in and Dad and we all stayed in bed for a half hour at least talking and snuggling. Then we got up, cleaned and got ready while Dad played the video of Darlin for Grandma, Carol & Bill. Then Mommy and I fixed a huge breakfast of potatoes, eggs, toast, cantaloupe and O.J. I did dishes and we went out to see the temple after we had talked for a couple of hours. Oh, it is so beautiful! We got stuff for Lasagna at Freddie’s, came home and fixed dinner with salad and cheese bread, while we watched what little Gymnastics they had on and went to sleep. Love,

This morning Mommy got me up just in time to the final rotation of the woman’s gymnastics, they are in fourth place in the Olympics now! Then I got ready in my red top and black pants, just in time to eat breakfast and help Mommy pack lunches. Then we did dishes and Darlin put on her skates in the car and we got there right in time for the 10:00 public session and Delores was so friendly and taught Darlin until 11:00 and then we still skated until 12:30 when we changed, rested, ate lunch and watched Darlin patch and got her a notebook and caramel corn and nuts. Then we came down and watched for awhile and then changed to skate again. It was even more fun the second time! I had a 10 minute lesson on my double salchow too. Then we shopped and ate more caramel corn, and caramel apples and drinks. Then we watched Sara and came back and Mommy fixed yummy pork chops and we watched a little Olympics. Did some laundry and went to bed. Love,

Rain 70

This morning when I got up Mommy and Dad were leaving for skating so I made up the beds and laid on Darlin’s bed to watch the Olympics. It was the Men’s team gymnastics and weight lifting. Then I got ready in my purple dress and fixed oatmeal and did the dishes. Just in time for Dad to pick us up. We skated from 10-12:30. Then went to Stratters market and got stuff for stroganoff and came home but had leftovers instead. On the way, we tried to find the house where Mommy lived when she was growing up but they had torn it down. So then while everyone else took a nap, we bummed and watched Olympics until 6:00 when Delores called and said that there wasn’t a session for us to have a lesson on, so we took our skates to be sharpened, went on a walk, fixed stroganoff and played Uno with Grandma Jo. This morning I fixed a lunch for Mommy to take with her when she left to take Darlin skating at 7:00 a.m. then I got ready in my yellow outfit and fixed oatmeal. Then Dad came to pick us up and we skated. After I did my school and heated up the leftover stroganoff for lunch and watched the Olympics. We skated from 2:30 – 3:30 and then came home to change after Darlin did patch. We made reservations to eat out in Beaverton at a place called China Kitchen and waited for Bill to come home from work and my cousin Bambi came too. The food was ok but we had a lot if fun! Then we went to Washington Square and Darlin got new black patch pants and we came home and watched the Olympics. Love,

Cloudy 70

This morning after I had packed Mommy and Darlin a lunch and they had left to go to the rink. I got ready in my black skirt and coral vest as I watched the women’s gymnastics team final. When Mommy called at 9:15 they were over and the U.S. team lost the bronze medal by .30 because of a penalty of .50. So anyway, we skated from 11-1 after we ate waffles and Dad came. Then we hurried to Clackamas to have our first lesson from Diane Schatz. She’s really fun. Then we changed and had lunch and watched more Olympics. Then we went to Jer and Char’s house for the night and talked and watched Olympics. Then Jer came home and they ordered pizza for dinner, yum! We stayed and watched the women’s all around and it was good. Then we left at 9:30 and came home. Love,

This morning I woke up later than Mommy and she was all ready and fixing breakfast while I got ready to go skating. Then I ate yummy potatoes, eggs, juice and toast for breakfast. Dad took me skating in my black leotard and skirt at 8:45 to have lesson from Diane one more time. It was lots of fun. Then I took off my skates and practiced butterflies off ice while Dad went back to get Mommy. Then I skated from 10-12:30 and we had clam chowder at Meier & Frank’s then skated from 1:30-3:30 and Marty was there and gave me his number again! Then Mommy took us shopping and bought Sheri and I hair bun cover things and Darlin a lock bank. Then we came home and had stew that Grandma Jo made and fell asleep watching Olympics. Love,

Cloudy 70

This morning I woke up just in time to make lunch for Mommy and they left to skate at 6:15 a.m. Then I got in Mommy’s bed and was going to sleep an hour but slept until 9:30 instead. So I got ready really quick because Mommy said she’d be home by then and I fixed potatoes, bacon, eggs, toast and juice for breakfast. Then Dad stayed home while Grandma, Mommy, Sheri, Darlin and I went shopping at Yamhill Market and Max (the train) to the Saturday market and back again. That was fun and Grandma bought us lunch at the gyro place in the mall. Then we came home and saw Mommy’s old house and school where she was crowned Rose Festival Princess. Then we ate salad and fries and peaches for dinner. My cousin Vickie and her husband Gary brought the twins over and Stephanie brought Mommy a present and we packed up. Love,

Rainy 70

This morning we slept in a little bit longer and got ready and packed and cleaned up. Then we had a big breakfast of potatoes (again) eggs, bacon, toast and fruit. We all did dishes and Darlin made us all a ham sandwich for lunch to take with us. Then we kissed everyone goodbye except Carol because she was still sleeping (she has Lupus) and said we would see them in a week or so and left. We sang and as usual Dad got mad and started hitting getting mad at Mommy because we didn’t sing right she was trying to help us. Then we sang better and they stopped fighting, but Mommy’s head still hurts from where Dad hit her. We stopped at Pendleton for gas, Ontario for snacks and a potty break and Burley for gas and hamburgers at Burger King. Then Mommy drove until Brigham City and we got home a little after 1:30 in the morning. Love,
